Hearst Castle

Top to Bottom- Outdoor Pool, Itailian Statue, Overhead View Of Castle, Indoor Pool
Yesterday, I went to Hearst Castle with my friends, and boy was I amazed. The Castle on "The Enchanted Hill" was amazingly beautiful. But to really experiene it, you have to know the history behind it.
The year was 1865. George Hearst had just struck silver and had purchased over 40,000 ares of land by the California seaside. By 1919, George had died, leaving the land to his young wife, Phoebe Apperson Hearst. Phoebe didn't spend much time in California, because she liked to travel the world with her son, William Randolph Hearst, who had spent summers at his fathers land, "Camp Hill".
When William inherited his father's land (which now amounted to 250,000 acres), he used his inspiration from the countries he'd seen to ahieve his dream, building a castle on a hill.
At age 57, he met up with Julia Morgan (an interior designer and architect), and started to build that dream. It took fifteen years, and a ton of hard work, but the estate was finally established and open for the rich and the famous to stay in.
When Mr. Hearst died, he left his "castle" to the residents of the state of California. It is now a museum of his fabulous life.

I visited there last year when we did a little road trip to Baja California, the castle is so awesome with all the sculptures and the huge pools, it was really fun.

Ironic that Mr. Hearst is nowadays barely more famous than his architect, Ms. Morgan. See my Word Face-Off blog post with several photos.
